OpenHouseDayLogo2016The Connecticut Office of Tourism is sponsoring the 12th annual Connecticut Open House Day on Saturday, June 11th. Plan on stopping in at the 19th century one-room Green (Centre) district schoolhouse on Canterbury Green. This charming little schoolhouse, now fully restored by Canterbury Historical Society volunteers, was in service into the 1950s, and you might meet one or more of its friendly former students on Open House Day. Bring the kids and give them a glimpse of what education was like on a smaller and more human scale, and without the technology that’s so universal in our time.

Open House Day is a one-day statewide event designed to showcase Connecticut’s diverse world of history, art, and tourism—a  great way for residents to discover or rediscover all that is happening in our state. The hope is that once Connecticut residents learn about the wealth of treasures in our own backyard, they will share their newly gained appreciation and enthusiasm with family and friends and become Connecticut ambassadors.
