The Canterbury Historical Society is pleased to have our restored historic 19th century one-room Green District Schoolhouse open to visitors for Connecticut Open House Day, on Saturday, June 8, 2019.

The Connecticut Office of Tourism is sponsoring the 15th annual Connecticut Open House Day, a one-day statewide event that showcases Connecticut’s diverse history, art, museums, and tourist destinations.  It’s a great way to discover or rediscover the wealth of treasures in our own backyard and explore them with family and friends.

small_schoolhouseAdmission to the Green Schoolhouse and parking are always free. We hope you will stop in. Bring the kids and let them experience first-hand how different school was in the not-so-distant past. Given that this one-room school was in use into the 1950s, you may even have the opportunity to chat with some of its former students.

See a slideshow of the historical society’s labor-of-love restoration of the schoolhouse on this website’s Projects page.
