Revolutionary War Period Music from Rick Spencer & Dawn Indermuehle

The Canterbury Historical Society is back in action with monthly meetings and programs for 2026, and we’re starting the year by welcoming the return of some fine friends: Rick Spencer & Dawn Indermuehle with what promises to be an interesting AND entertaining program!

In 1824, the Marquis de Lafayette returned to America to visit the nation he had fought years earlier to establish. He received a celebrity’s welcome, visited all 24 states and was honored as a surviving hero of the Revolutionary War. This presentation includes six songs that were popular during Lafayette’s time in America during the Revolution, and six that were composed to commemorate his return in 1824. The songs are arranged for two-part a capella vocals or are accompanied on guitar or banjo. The program also includes information about Lafayette’s fascinating life.

Rick Spencer and Dawn Indermuehle develop and present theme-based music and history programs, performing songs that give cultural insight into interesting times, places and events in American history. Rick and Dawn carefully craft their vocals and accompaniment to sound as true to a song’s era or style as possible. Their vast repertoire includes music from the Colonial era to the present day.  Rick and Dawn use these songs to illustrate the evolution of our nation’s culture and history in an informative and entertaining way.

The Canterbury Historical Society meets at the Canterbury Town Hall Community Room, One Municipal Drive, Canterbury. Our program will begin at 7:30PM, and follows a brief business meeting of the Canterbury Historical Society.  All are welcome, and admission is 100% free.
