Connecticut Lore: Strange, Off-Kilter and Full of Surprises

There will be a brief business session at 7:00 pm, followed by the program at about 7:30 & then refreshments.Free and open to the public. Bring a friend. Meet author Zachary Lamothe as he presents Connecticut Lore: Strange, Off Kilter and Full of Surprises, as the program at the November monthly meeting of the Canterbury Historical Society. Connecticut Lore: Strange, Off Kilter and Full of Surprises is a wide-ranging book that highlights stories of abandoned villages, tales of the supernatural, and off-beat travel destinations such as museums dedicated to carousels, railroads, and bizarre curiosities. The book, which also offers insider tips on tasty restaurants and activities near various attractions, has something new for first-time visitors as well as longtime residents of the Nutmeg state.In addition to sharing his knowledge about Connecticut, Zachary will also be talking about one of his more recent projects, Backyard Road Trips (www.backyardroadtrips.com), a website that asks and answers the question, “What’s in your backyard?”A native of Norwich, Connecticut, Zachary Lamothe graduated from Boston University, where he majored in American Studies with a concentration in New England history. He then earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University. Zachary makes his home in in Marshfield, Massachusetts, where he works as a teacher and freelance writer. He followed his first book, Connecticut Lore, with More Connecticut Lore: Guidebook to 82 Strange Locations.Following the program, free refreshments will be served and books will be available for purchase and signing. You’re Invited!

The welcome mat is out. Canterbury Historical Society monthly meetings, which always feature a history-themed program, are free and the public is warmly invited. Bring a friend, stay for complimentary refreshments, mingle, and get to know us a little. We will do our best to make you feel welcome. The business session, which begins at 7:00, rarely lasts more than half an hour. If you want to skip it and just come for the program, plan to arrive about 7:30. The Canterbury Historical Society’s regular monthly meetings are on the second Friday evening of the month, except for July and August, when we take a summer break. We are happy to send email announcements of regular meetings and special events to nonmembers.
